The community has dealt with gun violence.
They dealt with the trauma.
They've lost loved ones.
And so what better people to stand up and lead this movement than the community itself?
We realize that the work to make our community safer is not something the city can do alone, where we rely heavily on our community partners.
The Grant program provides community partners with funding and resources to help prevent gun violence in our community.
These grants are for nonprofit organizations, many of which have been active in our community for many, many years.
Working to reduce gun violence among our young people.
We want to provide them with funding, but we want innovation, right?
Community centers look different in 2024 than they did in the nineties.
You're not just rolling a basketball out and have an open jam.
Kids want gaming.
Kids want charging centers that want meditation pads, right?
So we want organizations to come with those innovative ideas to bring us into this new century where we're really resonating with the kids that we're trying to reach.
