with roughly two weeks left to strike a deal New Jersey Transit and the union representing the agency's locomotive Engineers have reached a tentative deal on a contract dispute according to a joint statement released this morning the agreement includes wage increases which have been the main sticking point for union members since their contract expired in 2019 now it's unclear how much of a hike they settled on but during negotiations the engineers Union asked for increases closer to what workers make at commuter railroads in Long Island and New York City while njt sought to raise pay at the same percentage as its other 14 rail unions union members still need to vote to ratify the contract the decision comes as New Jersey Transit proposes a $3.2 billion budget for the next fiscal year that includes an automatic annual 3% Fair hike to take effect this year according to reports it means the cost for a one-way ticket between New York Penn and Trenton will be just shy of 20 bucks [Music]
