Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipyes March does mean Madness for college basketball fans especially in Jersey where another home team is winning big and busting brackets it might be time to declare Jersey as a new Cinderella state if you count last year's run by the St Peter's peacocks this time it's Princeton the Tigers upset second Seed University of Arizona in a game that went down to the wire their last tournament win was 25 years ago when now head coach Mitch Henderson scored 19 points earned six assists and secured three steals to help the Tigers defeat UNLV all the way from Sacramento California the ones Princeton Claire now coach Mitch Henderson joins me now congrats coach thank you so much I appreciate it wow thanks for making some time we know it is a busy and exciting time and we also know St Patrick's day is today but Luck came early for you last night huge win beating the second Seed University of Arizona by Four Points tell me what that's been like I'll tell you what um you know we we you go into the tournament and you prepare your team to win but um you know I think we yeah I was fortunate to be a part of one of these wins as a student athlete as a player a long time ago against UCLA but I was just so proud of it guys we it was a very tall task we had to do a lot of things really well we actually didn't play great on offense but we were really tough down the stretch and um so many of the guys made big plays and when it mattered the most we had such a great Princeton crowd out here Raven you you would have loved it it was uh it was a lot of fun let's talk about busting people's bracket I mean you guys have to be getting a kick out of this I I um I tell you what like the the team is um we we went to dinner last night and I sat down with some of the guys on the team I was like you guys realize what you just did and they were kind of like no I think that as time goes on we'll we'll realize what a special moment this this was for us and um but you know right now we're in the middle of we have Missouri tomorrow and uh we're sitting here preparing for our next game and hopeful to keep the magic going you know Circle you just mentioned 25 years ago you are Princeton kid playing in the NCAA tournament and you helped Shock the World then and you are doing that once again tell me what that Journey has been like so I'm you know I'm the coach where I went to school and you know when you're a student athlete it's it's all kind of a you you sort of the world is like right at your feet all the time and you but you kind of have blanders on and you know when you're um now I'm the coach and have more perspective on how much goes into the experience that that I've been fortunate to have as a student athlete but really the the experience that we have together now and and it's so much better now I I um it's a it's a million times better because a lot goes into this and the uh you you want this for your student athletes you want this for them you want them to feel you know I'm here with you and our guys have been enjoying um you know the last few hours just uh soaking everything in and how proud they've made their University and um I'm just so happy for them that they're getting a chance to feel this toastin Obama you're talking about the guys the players you have some are saying he's the best college player in the state six eight senior ivy league Player of the Year in 2022 is he going to keep busting brackets is my question we certainly hope so you know he's been what one of the really special things about tosan is um he he's accepting of coaching and when you have your best player who's so humble and willing to improve yesterday during the game I was like listen you got to start taking this game over and he did and um you know we're hopeful we have a really tough task with Missouri we know that and uh we were hopeful he can keep it going for us with the rest of his teammates well you have to keep it going you and fdu you are giving people a run for their money and people here in Jersey are loving it we are loving it tomorrow night you'll play the seventh seeded Missouri in the second round of the tournament we are all rooting for you thank you so much I appreciate it it's a pleasure to be with you good luck coach we'll be watching okay thank you [Music]
