Details.
And tonight's Education Matters segment.
We recognize that starting a new life in a new country is never easy, but we also know that with the right support, guidance, and belief, these young people can thrive not in spite of their journey, but because of it.
This project is designed to support or provide mentorship to yours, aged 15 years old, to 24 refugees who have come to Louisville carrying not only the weight of displacement, but the strength of survival, culture and hope.
They are students.
They are sons.
They are daughters, dreamers and future leaders in our community.
Our students will have mentors with similar life experiences who are able to connect in the same language.
This is especially important as we expand our Accelerate to Graduate program next year, providing the opportunity for multilingual students to accelerate their learning in order to reach their full potential in our community.
This project connects refugee, your school in caring, trained and mentors, many of whom understand the unique challenges of resettlement.
This mentors will walk alongside our mentees not to lead, not to lead the way for them, but to help them in their own path with confidence, courage, and community.
By volunteering as a mentor.
They will have opportunities to make a lasting impact on a young person, on a young person's life.
We will have about three students or mentees that they will be helping.
We have some activities that will be, but putting them together.
Mentors are supposed to be checking up on their mentees to make sure everything is going fine.
We have some activities and we do have like visiting universities, different university, like I mentioned.
It's something that I've definitely been looking forward to, something that I wish I had when I came to this country as I am a refugee myself.
So I'm really excited to see this event start off.
The six month program is for ages 15 to 24, and focuses on college and career readiness and social skills.
