- But why would Singer Melody cancel her tour?

(phone ringing) - Singer Melody, are you okay?

What happened to your world tour?

- Oh yeah.

I was just about to call you.

My world tour got canceled because, dramatic pause, my award is gone!

- [Sly] You won this year's Most Distinguished Wordsvillian Award?

- That's the award the whole town votes on once a year.

- That's the one.

- "Distinguished" means well-known, successful and admired.

- And Singer Melody's well-known, successful, and admired all over the world.

- I used to be those things, but now that the word "distinguished" has gone, I'm an unknown, unsuccessful, unadmired singer.

That's why my world tour got canceled.

- Don't worry, Singer Melody.

We'll solve this case, and fast.

- Tell us what happened and I'll animate it.

- [Sly] Recap time!

- [Singer Melody] I was packing for my world tour when Reporter Read came by with Scientist Cosmo.

He won last year's Distinguished Wordsvillian Award for his scientific work, so Reporter Read wanted a photo of us together.

While she set up her camera, Scientist Cosmo and I chatted.

Then Reporter Read's camera needed batteries, so they left, and somehow, some way, poof, the Distinguished Wordsvillian Award disappeared.

- We got this, Singer Melody.

Please, show us the scene of the mystery.

- (sighs) This is where I last saw my award.

- [Sly] I'm taking a screenshot.

(camera shutter clicks) - Don't worry, Singer Melody.

We'll solve this mystery for sure.

- We won't rest until we solve this.

- Sounds good.

- Case Notes time.

- What happened?

Someone took the Distinguished Wordsvillian Award.

- That means the distinguished people of Wordsville are now unknown, unsuccessful, and unadmired.

- We know where it happened.

The recording studio.

- And it happened when Reporter Read and Scientist Cosmo were there to take a photo.

- [Sly] They're our suspects.

- We need to figure out who did it, how and why.

What are the clues?

- [Sly] I'm zooming in.

The camera's probably Reporter Read's, and I bet I know who made those high-tech headphones.

(phone ringing) - Word Detectives.

Hi!

- Scientist Cosmo, we have some word mystery questions for you.

- Wait, this is my latest invention.

It's a homework helping machine.

Watch.

(machine whirring) Oh no!

(machine screeching) - Is that how it's supposed to work?

- Not even a little bit.

- This must be related to our case.

- The word "distinguished" is missing.

- And being successful is part of being distinguished.

- So your inventions can't be successful until we get it back.

- I do appreciate learning from failure, but this machine used to work perfectly and now it doesn't.

That's annoying!

- Was it also annoying to lose this year's Distinguished Wordsvillian Award to Singer Melody?

- [Scientist Cosmo] A little.

- Those headphones you're wearing look familiar.

- There was a pair like them at the recording studio.

- [Scientist Cosmo] I figured Singer Melody could use some of the super noise-canceling headphones I invented.

They give you quiet when the attention from being distinguished is too much.

- Too much?

Isn't it awesome to be well-known and admired?

- Can be.

But when I won the Distinguished Wordsvillian Award, people kept bothering me for interviews, photos, speeches.

I had no time to devote to what made me distinguished in the first place.

Science.

- Let's see what Reporter Read has to say.

(phone ringing) - Word Detectives, did you read or watch or listen to any of my news reports today?

- I will.

- I meant to.

- Later.

- You sound upset.

- Are you okay?

- Not really.

I've written and investigated a lot of distinguished award-winning stories, but no one in town pays attention to them.

- But only because the word "distinguished" is missing.

- Then how come I've never won the Distinguished Wordsvillian Award?

- Do you want to win the award?

- Who wouldn't?

Except maybe, Singer Melody.

- What do you mean?

- Scientists Cosmo told her that after winning the award she wouldn't have time to write new songs.

Singer Melody was sad about that.

That's when I left to get batteries for my camera.

Now, I have to get back to working on news reports, even if no one sees them.

- Let's review our case notes.

Scientist Cosmo and Reporter Read are both upset the word "distinguished" is missing, but Singer Melody isn't really.

- But we are.

- You're right.

We were so worried when we found out about her new tour that we called her.

- Gabby, we called her.

- (gasps) Sly, we both know what this means.

(phones ringing) - Now presenting the word mystery animated reenactment of, The Case of the Distinguished Doubt.

- [Reporter Read] I need a photo of you two and the Distinguished Wordsvillian Award, if my camera will let me take it.

It's not working.

- [Scientist Cosmo] Congratulations on winning, Singer Melody.

With all the extra attention you get, you'll have time to write speeches, but not songs.

- [Singer Melody] What?

That doesn't sound like fun.

- [Reporter Read] Ah, sounds fun to me.

Ugh.

My camera needs batteries.

We'll do this photo later.

- [Scientist Cosmo] These headphones are for you.

- [Singer Melody] I just really wanna make music.

- Singer Melody is the one who did it.

- Singer Melody?

- Wow!

Plot twist.

- She threw the award in the garbage when everyone left.

♪ It's true ♪ - Scientist Cosmo said winning the Distinguished Award means I won't have time to write new songs.

That's why I threw it, the award.

Now I have lots of time to write music.

- But Singer Melody, that award isn't just yours.

It belongs to the town of Wordsville.

- You're right.

- And every single distinguished Wordsvillian who's won it and will win it.

(clears throat) - It does?

Oh no, I'm so sorry!

I wasn't thinking.

How selfish of me.

- Can't you just take it outta the garbage?

- No, it's already on the way to the garbage dump.

Does this mean the word "distinguished" is gone forever?

- Don't worry.

I have an idea.

(phones ringing) Singer Melody, your brand new Distinguished Wordsvillian Award was made by the previous winners.

- And even though Reporter Read hasn't won the award yet, it was her idea and I admire that.

- Me too.

And I promise I'll take care of this Distinguished Award.

While too much attention might need less time for songwriting, I do love meeting my fans on tour.

Plus, if I need quiet time, I've got these headphones.
