Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- Did a word that's important to you go missing?
- And now all you can feel, do, or think is the opposite of that word?
- Then call us!
I'm Sly.
- And I'm Gabby.
We're word detectives and we solve- - [Both] Word mysteries!
- Together, we run the Wordsville Online Detective Agency.
- We'll find your missing word fast.
- Not to mention briskly.
- And swiftly!
- Yeah, we're really good with words.
- [Children] Wordsville!
- Sly, what are you doing?
- I'm trying to see how far I can jump.
What are you doing?
- Getting ready for Athlete Glory's Virtual Workout for Wordsville.
I can't wait to exercise with everyone, but I don't think I've stopped moving in hours.
- Me either.
That's the farthest I've ever jumped, but I bet I can beat it.
- Wait, Sly, Reporter Read is calling!
What if how we're feeling is part of a word mystery?
I'm answering.
- Word Detectives, did you read our watch or listen to my report this morning?
You know what?
I'll just play it.
Watch!
I'm Reporter Read with the Wordsville Word of the Day.
It's lethargic.
Lethargic means not having energy or not feeling like doing things.
It's how you feel when you're lazy and you just wanna lie around.
Watch tomorrow for another word.
(yawns) That was before.
This is now.
- The Word of the Day is gone!
This must be why we can't stop moving or doing things.
- Does anyone mind if I bounce while we talk?
- Why not?
I'm still moving.
- Not at all!
- Since the word lethargic is missing, we feel energetic.
- It's true!
- Energetic is the opposite of lazy and lethargic.
See, the dictionary says, "Energetic means we have energy, the strength our bodies and minds use to do things and stay active."
- Right!
At first, feeling energetic was amazing.
I worked on so many news stories.
It was like I could take on the world.
Yeah!
- Is there a but coming?
- There is.
But I can't stop feeling energetic.
I have too much energy!
I feel hyper.
I would really like to relax, but I can't stop moving.
- Same here.
We'll take your case.
- Tell us what happened.
I like animating even more than bouncing.
Recap time!
- [Reporter Read] I was tired filming my Word of the Day report when Scientist Cosmo came to pick up a book he lent me.
And then Athlete Glory interrupted me too.
As I re-watched my report, my news camera got unplugged.
As I plugged it in, suddenly I felt energetic.
It was only later that I felt too energetic and hyper that I saw the word lethargic was missing and I called you two.
- Good thinking.
Now please show us the scene of the mystery.
- Anything to help solve the case.
- [Gabby] No clues on the wall.
Anything on the floor?
- [Sly] I'll take a screenshot for our case notes.
Reporter Read, we'll get back to you.
- I'll be here!
- Okay, case notes time.
We know what happened.
Someone took the word lethargic.
So now we're too energetic and hyper.
- Like ah!
- Yes!
We know where it happened, the newsroom.
When Reporter Read plugged her news camera back in as the suspects Athlete Glory and Scientist Cosmo left.
- Now to find out who did it, how, and why.
Let's work out the clues!
- [Gabby] Hey look!
There's trail mix and a banana peel on the floor and a Workout for Wordsville flyer with something handwritten on it.
Can you zoom in?
- [Sly] It says bring all your energy.
- Huh, that can't be a coincidence.
Let's interview our suspects.
- Woo-hoo!
- Hey, Word Detectives.
Sorry, I can't talk long.
I'm busy setting up for my Virtual Workout for Wordsville.
- We'll be quick.
But the use up our energy, should we do jumping jacks or touch our toes or do squats?
- Any movements are good, but why don't you bring all your energy to Workout for Wordsville?
You are coming, right?
- I want to, but we can only come if we solve the case we're working on.
- [Sly] The word lethargic is missing!
- Oh, well is that a bad thing?
- Turns out, yep!
So can you tell us what happened at the newsroom?
- Oh, I asked Reporter Read to come to my workout for Wordsville, but she said she was tired and didn't feel like it today.
- Were you sad about that?
- I felt sad for her.
Feeling tired and lethargic is the worst.
Exercise can give you energy, but she said she didn't wanna hear it.
Maybe Scientist Cosmo can tell you more.
He was tired.
I hope he found a way to get energized.
Well, I better get set up for the workout!
- Hmm, she's planting the finger at Scientist Cosmo.
Let's call him.
- Yeah, and let's also keep moving.
- Hi Word Detectives.
I'm trying to invent a machine that never stops moving like I can't today.
- We can't stop either!
- I was definitely trying to figure it out.
Then I remembered, I lent Reporter Read a book that might help me.
So I went to the newsroom to get it, but I was so tired, my yawns kept interrupting Reporter Read.
- Are you tired now?
- Not at all.
Usually when I feel lethargic and sleepy, I nap or eat a snack, like trail mix and a banana for energy.
But I'm way more energetic than usual.
I'm hyper.
- So you don't like feeling lethargic?
- It's okay to feel lethargic and lazy sometimes, just not when you have an invention to invent.
I'm going to use all this energy and keep on inventing!
Bye.
- Case notes time!
- Woo-hoo!
- [Sly] Most suspects had their own reason to take the word lethargic.
- [Gabby] Athlete Glory wants everyone to have energy for her virtual workout.
- [Sly] And Scientist Cosmo needed energy to invent his invention.
- [Gabby] The trail mix and banana peel are from Scientist Cosmo eating them to get energized.
- [Sly] And this Workout for Wordsville flyer must belong to Athlete Glory.
- It says, "Bring all your energy," which she said to us.
- She also said feeling tired and lethargic is the worst.
- But Scientist Cosmo said it's okay to feel lethargic and lazy sometimes.
- (gasps) I think I might know what happened, Gabby!
- I think I do too.
Let's show them!
- Now presenting the word mystery animated reenactment of the Case of the Too Energetic Town.
- (yawns) Word of the Day take one.
- Hello.
I'm here to pick up the book I (yawns) lent you.
- Go ahead, but I have to finish my Word of the Day report.
Take two.
(Scientist Cosmo yawns) - Hi, are you coming to my Virtual Workout for Wordsville later?
- No, sorry.
I'm tired.
Take three.
Good morning, Wordsvillians.
Reporter Read here and it's time to reveal the Wordsville Word of the Day.
It's lethargic.
- I wonder what would happen if the word lethargic was missing.
- And cut.
(yawns) Now to re-watch my report.
Hey, my news camera's unplugged!
Athlete Glory is who did it!
- Athlete Glory!
- Didn't see that coming.
- She created a distraction and took the word lethargic.
That's how.
- She thought taking it would give everyone energy for her Workout for Wordsville.
That's why.
- That's not the only reason.
I also wanted everyone to want to work out, not for everyone to become so energetic we couldn't stop.
I'm so sorry.
I'll return the word and cancel Workout for Wordsville.
- Not so fast.
I just got an idea for a new news report.
Good afternoon, Wordsvillians.
Word Detectives Gabby and Sly solved another word mystery.
And the word lethargic is back!
How do you all feel?
- Normal.
- Not hyper.
- Optimal.
- Great!
- Perfect.
Because the Wordsville News is happy to present- - The Virtual Workout for Wordsville!
Thanks, Reporter Read.
Are you ready to get your bodies moving again?
Let's warm up.
- Hey Sly, we did it!
We solved the case of the too energetic town!
- We sure did, but maybe we could've waited until after Workout for Wordsville.
I wouldn't mind having a little more energy for this.
