THOSE STORIES AND MORE, NEXT, ON ARIZONA HORIZON.
THOSE STORIES UP NEXT ON ARIZONA HORIZON.
>>> GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME TO ARIZONA HORIZON.
I'M TED SIMONS.
THE ATLANTIC MAGAZINE TODAY PUBLISHED MORE DETAILS OF A TRUMP ADMINISTRATION GROUP TEXT-CHAT THAT INVOLVED DETAILED WAR PLANS, AND THAT MISTAKENLY INCLUDED THE ATLANTIC'S EDITOR.THE NEW INFORMATION SHOWED HOW DEFENSE SECRETARY PETE HEGSETH DISCLOSED DETAILS OF A PLANNED MILITARY ATTACK ON YEMEN, DETAILS THAT INCLUDED THE TIME OF THE ATTACK'S, TARGETS AND OTHER SENSITIVE INFORMATION.
THE ATTACK OCCURED NOT LONG AFTER THE CHAT WAS HELD.
RESPONSE ON CAPITOL HILL: >> THERE IS NO SUGAR COATING THIS SITUATION.
IT'S A BREAKDOWN OF SECURITY THAT PUT OUR PIOLETS IN THE MOST SEVERE JEOPARDY AND EVEN AFTER THE MISSION WAS COMPLETE, DISCLOSURE OF THESE DETAILS PUTS THE MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN AT RISK.
SHOWING US PLANES, AMMUNITION, THEY COULD ALL BE HIGHLY VALUABLE TO OUR ENEMIES.
>> IT'S REALLY CONCERNING.
>> SHOULD HE RESIGN?
>> I THINK WE'LL FIGURE IT OUT.
IT APPEARS MR. WALTZ ACCEPTED FAULT FOR IT.
>> HEGSET HAD ALL OF THE PLANS.
>> DOES IT CONCERN ME, HELL YES.
>> IT'S TOO MUCH FOR MARK KELLY.
IN A STATEMENT KELLY SAID THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU PUT UNQUALIFIED PEOPLE IN IMPORTANT JOBS WHERE LIVES ARE ON THE LINE.
SECRETARY HEGSETH NEEDS TO RESIGN.
THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION SAID THIS IS MUCH TO DO ABOUT NOT MUCH.
>> WE HAD DECLASSIFIED CONVERSATION WE HAVE OTHER MEANS OF COMMUNICATION AND A JOURNALIST IS TRYING TO MAKE A NAME FOR HIMSELF.
>>> OTHER HEADLINES: THE U.S. SUPREME COURT TODAY UPHELD FEDERAL LIMITS ON GHOST-GUN KITS, WHICH CAN BE ASSEMBLED INTO HOMEMADE FIREARMS THAT ARE NEARLY UNTRACEABLE.
IT WAS A 7-2 DECISION, WITH CONSERVATIVE JUSTICES SAMUEL ALITO AND CLARENCE THOMAS FILING DISSENTS.
THE BIDEN-ERA REGULATIONS TIGHTENED ACCESS TO THE WEAPONS KITS AFTER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AROUND THE COUNTRY REPORTED THAT GHOST GUNS WERE INCREASINGLY BEING USED TO COMMIT SERIOUS CRIMES.
A FEDERAL APPEALS COURT TODAY KEPT A TEMPORARY BLOCK ON THE PRESIDENT'S USE OF THE ALIEN ENEMIES ACT FOR DEPORTATIONS.
THE D.C. COURT OF APPEALS PANEL RULED 2-1 THAT A PAIR OF LOWER COURT ORDERS BLOCKING THE WAR- TIME AUTHORITY CAN STAND WHILE A LEGAL CHALLENGE PLAYS OUT.
THAT ORIGINAL BLOCK INVOLVED 2-PLANE FLIGHTS OF PEOPLE DEPORTED DURING AN EMERGENCY HEARING.
THE FLIGHTS WERE NOT TURNED AROUND, LEADING TO QUESTIONS OF WHETHER OR NOT THE PRESIDENT SIMPLY IGNORED THE JUDGE'S ORDER.
AND, LATE THIS AFTERNOON, PRESIDENT TRUMP IMPOSED 25- PERCENT TARIFFS ON ALL AUTO IMPORTS.
THE WHITE HOUSE CLAIMS THAT THE MOVE WILL BOOST DOMESTIC MANUFACTURING, BUT THERE'S CONCERN THAT THE TARIFFS COULD ALSO PUT A FINANCIAL SQUEEZE ON U.S. AUTO-MAKERS THAT DEPEND ON GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAINS.
SHARES IN GENERAL MOTERS FELL ROUGHLY 3- PERCENT IN AFTERNOON TRADING, WITH 4-PERCENT DROPS IN SHARES OF STELLANTIS, THE OWNER OF JEEP AND CHRYSLER.
FORD'S STOCK SHOWED A SLIGHT INCREASE.
>>> PRESIDENT TRUMP SIGNED A SWEEPING EXECUTIVE ORDER YESTERDAY THAT WOULD OVER-HAUL U.S.
ELECTIONS.
THE ORDER REQUIRES DOCUMENTARY PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP TO VOTE IN FEDERAL ELECTIONS AND MANDATES THAT ALL BALLOTS AROUND THE BE RECEIVED BY ELECTION DAY.
THE PRESIDENT PROMISED TO PULL FEDERAL FUNDING FROM STATES WHERE ELECTION OFFICIALS ARE NOT IN COMPLIANCE.
WE SPOKE WITH THE STATE'S ELECTIONS CHIEF, SECRETARY OF STATE ADRIAN FONTES YESTERDAY, JUST MOMENTS AFTER THE PRESIDENT'S ORDER WAS ANNOUNCED.
>> SECRETARY FONTES, GOOD TO SEE YOU.
WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER.
WE ARE RECORDING THIS ON TUESDAY.
THIS ORDER HAS JUST COME DOWN FROM THE WHITE HOUSE, YOUR THOUGHTS.
>> WELL, THE QUESTION I HAVE IS WHAT IS THE END GAME?
THE ORDER HAS NINE SUBSTIVE SECTIONS IN IT.
THERE IS LACK OF FUNDING AND THE NOTION WE WON'T GET ANY MORE FUNDING TO HELP US.
NOW WITH THESE -- SOME OF WHICH OUTRAGEOUS ELECTIONS.
THIS IS A MOVE TO NOT HAVE ELECTIONS IN 2026, RAISE THE BAR, CREATE FALSE FLAGS AND SAY, WE MIGHT AS WELL NOT HAVE ELECTIONS.
>> THAT'S GOING PRETTY FAR.
>> THEY HAVE GONE PRETTY FAR SO FAR DURING THE TERM.
THEY HAVE DONE THINGS TO FEDERAL AGENCIES NO ONE WOULD IMAGE.
THIS IS VERY CAREFULLY EXECUTED AND ATTACK ATBIS THE PRECEPT OF OUR DEMOCRACY.
IT'S FEDERALIZATION UNDER THIS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
>> INDEED, WHAT WE HAVE SEEN SO FAR IT WOULD DEMAND DOCUMENTARY PROOF FOR CITIZENSHIP AND PASSPORTS IN FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
EMPOWERING AGENCIES TO CUT FUNDING TO STATES DEEMED NONCOMPLIANT WITH WHAT THEY THINK YOU NEED TO COMPLY WITH.
WHAT THE WHITE HOUSE PAINTS AS ELECTIONS CRIMES.
THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING.
>> THAT'S PART OF THE OUTRAGE.
THERE ARE NO CRIMES ELECTIONS OFFICIALS HAVE COMMITTED.
THERE HAS NEVER BEEN PROOF OF THIS.
THE BEGINNING SPEAKS ABOUT HOW ELECTIONS ARE UNSECURE.
THEY ARE NOT.
WE HAVE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT BUT WE DO THEM WELL IN THE COUNTRY.
THE INJECTION OF DOUBLE AND FALSE ALLEGATIONS.
>> IF PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED IN PERSON.
WHAT DOES THAT DO WITH MAIL IN VOTING AND ONLINE REGISTRATION, DOES IT BLOW THAT OUT OF THE WATER.
>> THE ONLY PEOPLE WE WANT VOTING ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE THOSE DOCUMENTS AND SHOW UP IN PERSON AND PRESENT THEM.
IT'S AN END AROUND THE DEAD SAVE ACT BY EXECUTIVE ORDER.
THIS IS WHAT IS INTERESTING.
AN EXECUTIVE THAT WOULD LIKE TO DO SOMETHING THEY CAN'T DO THROUGH LEGISLATURE PROCESS, THAT'S DANGEROUS.
>> THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN.
WILL YOU BE INTERESTED IN FILING SUIT.
>> I'M AN ATTORNEY SO I CAN'T THREATEN IT BUT LOOKING AT IT.
>> YOU EXPECT OTHERS.
>> THERE IS A LIKELIHOOD, SOME OF THE SECTIONS WE'LL BE JOINED BY REPUBLICAN SECRETARIES OF STATE ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
THEY DON'T WANT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RUNNING THEIR ELECTIONS EITHER.
>> THERE WAS NO PROSECUTION AND NO EVIDENCE OF THE FRAUD WE KEEP HEARING ABOUT FROM THIS ADMINISTRATION FROM FOLLOWERS.
WHY DOES IT HAVE TRACTION.
>> THEY HAVE CREATED AN INDUSTRY OUT OF PEDDLING LIES.
IT FITS THEIR NARRATIVE NICELY.
IT IS INSIDIOUS AND DESTROYS THE TRUST WE HAVE DURING THE MOST CORE INSTITUTION WE CAN BELIEVE IN AND ERODED THAT WAY.
ALLOWING THEM TO TAKE POWER IN WAYS WE NORMALLY WOULDN'T GIVE.
THIS GOES BACK TO A DARKER TIME IN WESTERN CIVILIZATION.
THAT'S A PROBLEM FOR THE FEDERAL PUB.
>> GOOD TO HAVE YOU HERE AND GOOD CONVERSATION.
THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.
>> THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.
>>> THE FEICS GLOBAL FORUM IS NEXT MONTH.
FEATURE A WIDE RANGE OF TECHNOLOGY, BUSINESS, AND GROWTH.
WE'LL WELCOME WELCOME RITA MARKO, PRESIDENT AND CEO OF PHOENIX SISTER CITIES.

ELEVATING THE PROFILE OF PHOENIX AND ARIZONA ON THE GLOBAL STAGE.
WE PLAN TO WELCOME A FORMER GOVERNOR.
WE'LL LOOK AT WHAT THE PARTNERSHIPS ARE LIKE AND ADDRESS ISSUES.
>> SPACE ECONOMY IS A TOPIC.
>> SPACE, AI, COMPUTING.
>> THIS IS WHAT WE ARE DOING ABOUT IT IN PHOENIX.
>> IT'S BOTH.
WE BRING IN SPEAKERS FROM AROUND THE GLOB.
THEY WILL BRING WITH THEM THEIR IDEAS AND CONCENTRATE SEPTEMBERS.
WE WILL SHOW WHAT WE ARE DOING HERE.
DR.STEVEN JOHNSON HAS INVENTED A VACCINE FOR CANCER IN DOGS.
THIS IS A PHENOMENAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS HOW DO YOU TRANSLATE THAT.
THOSE ARE THE THINGS WE ARE DOING.
THEY ARE GOING, NOT SO BAD.
>> PHOENIX IS HOT AS WE'D LIKE TO SAY.
>> THAT'S THE PLAN AS WELL.
>> AI IS PART OF THESE THINGS.
TALK ABOUT HOW AI HAS CHANGED ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO INNOVATION.
>> THE MOST INTERESTING THINGS IN BIOTECH IS RELATED TO AI.
YOU CAN GET ALL KINDS OF INNOVATION AND APPROACHES TO PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF AI.
WE ARE ALSO LOOKING AT THE IMPACT OF AI ON THE WORK FORCE.
HOW DO WE MAKE THE DIGIT TRADITIONAL TRANSITION.
WHERE MIGHT WE WANT TO LOOK TO THE FUTURE.
>> ONE TOPIC WAS BRIDGING THE FRONTIER WITH QUANTUM.
>> WE TRY TO MAKE QUANTUM PROCESSES.
IS THERE GAS.
SHOULD WE BE WORRIED ABOUT PEOPLE WORKING IN THAT MIND.
HOW DO YOU MAKE IT TANGIBLE.
>> THIS IS THE SECOND PHOENIX GLOBAL FORUM.
>> IT WENT REALLY WELL.
THIS IS WHY WE DID IT OVERTIME.
>> PEOPLE WERE COMPLETELY SURPRISED WHAT PHOENIX HAS TO OFFER.
THAT'S WHAT WE GOT FROM ALL OF THE CEOs THAT VISITED FROM US.
OUR PARTNERS OF THE AMERICA'S COMPANY OUT OF MONTREAL TOLD US IT WAS THE BEST FIRST EDITION EVER.
I WAS PLEASED.
WE WORK REALLY HARD.
>> YOU MENTIONED MONTREAL AND LAST YEAR.
THINGS ARE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR.
HOW DO YOU NAVIGATE THE CHOPPY WATERS.
THIS IS A RELATIONSHIP.
WE HAVE THEM WITH CITIES ACROSS THE GLOBE.
CANADA, MEXICO, AND IF YOU STAY FOCUSED ON THAT AND THOSE RELATIONSHIPS ARE YOUTH AMBASSADORS, ARTS AND CULTURE AND BUSINESS.
>> IT CHANGES ON A DAILY BASIS.
>> YES, WE HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE.
>> WE HAVE TO FOCUS ON OUR COMMUNITY.
>> AS FAR AS PRESENTERS AND SPEAKERS, HOW DO YOU DECIDE.
>> WE HAVE A LONG LIST AND STARTED TO POP.
SOMETIMES WE GET A YES OR NO.
>> ALL RIGHT, FAIR ENOUGH.
THE PHOENIX GLOBAL FORUM.
>> APRIL 8th AND 9th AT THE CONVENTION CENTER.
>> GET ALL OF THE INFORMATION AND MORE.
RITA MARKO, PHOENIX SISTER CITIES CEO.
>> ALWAYS A PLEASURE.
>>> THERE'S A SHORTAGE OF VETERINARIANS AND VET-TECHS IN ARIZONA AND AROUND THE COUNTRY.
THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF VETINARY MEDICAL COLLEGES SAYS IT WOULD TAKE 50,000 VET-TECHS NATIONWIDE TO FILL THE CURRENT NATIONWIDE SHORTAGE.
WESTERN MARICOPA EDUCATION CENTER, OR WEST-MEC, IS LOOKING TO HELP ADDRESS THE ISSUE.
JOINING US NOW: HAILEY ADAMS, AN INSTRUCTOR AT WEST-MEC, AND ALSO WITH US: SEDONA PRICE, A STUDENT AT WEST-MEC.
GOOD TO HAVE YOU HERE.
>> THANK YOU VERY INVITING US.
>> HOW BAD IS THE SHORTAGE?
>> PRETTY BAD.
>> HOW DID IT GET THAT WAY?
>> A LOT OF FACTORS.
THEY DON'T MAKE A LOT OF MONEY.
MANY VETERINARIANS AND TECHS LEAVE BECAUSE THEY CAN MAKE MONEY ELSEWHERE.
THEY BOTH HAVE A LOT OF DEBT.
CAUSES A LOT OF EXITS.
>> ARE THE SHORTAGES SOMETHING NEW.
>> I HAVE BEEN HERE FOR 20 YEARS AND IT'S ALL THEY BEEN THAT WAY.
>> IT'S BUILDING AND GETTING WORSE.
>> YOU WANT TO GET IN THIS LINE OF WORK, WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED?
>> I ALWAYS WAS INTERESTED IN ANIMALS.
WEST-MEC HELPED ME SEE WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO.
>> HOW DID THEY DO THAT?
>> WE HAVE OUR OWN CLINIC WHERE WE HAVE ANIMALS COME IN.
IT SHOWS YOU WHAT IT'S LIKE TO WORK IN A CLINIC.
>> IS IT WHAT YOU EXPECTED?
>> NOT REALLY.
>> HOW SO IN.
>> IT'S COOL TO SEE THE PROCESS.
A LOT GOES INTO DOING A SURGERY ON AN ANIMAL.
IT IS OBVIOUSLY, IN THE CLINIC IT'S A DAY-TO-DAY THING.
WE TAKE A WEEK TO DO IT AND GET TO KNOW OUR ANIMALS.
DOMESTIC ANIMALS?
LARGE ANIMALS?
>> WE FOCUS ON DOGS AND CATS.
WE HAVE A BIT IN EXOTIC ANIMALS BUT OUR OTHER CAMPUS HAS AN EXTRA LARGE ANIMAL COMPONENT.
>> ASSISTING SURGERIES AND RUNNING LAB TESTS AND OBTAINING VITALS.
>> YES, JUST BASICS.
WE LEARN TO FEED THEM, PROPER FOOD.
LEARN TO CLEAN AND DO TRAINING AS WELL.
>> I SAW EXTERNSHIPS ARE OFFERED?
>> YOU WORKOUT AT AN ANIMAL HOSPITAL.
WE REQUIRE 100 HOURS.
THEY WORK WITH US AND BUILDING THE FOUNDATION.
THEY GO TO THE CLINICS AND BUILD THE SKILLS AND SEE MORE THINGS.
>> HAVE YOU DONE AN EXTERNSHIP?
>> NOT YET.
>> YOU ARE BUILDING TOWARDS THAT.
>> YES.
>> THIS IS NOT JUST, HOW TO BE AROUND AN ANIMAL.
IT'S PART OF YOUR CAREER.
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT THINGS, IS THAT TRUE?
>> AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WE BUILD RESUMES AND BID MOCK INTERVIEWS.
>> YEAH, COLLEGE CREDITS ARE THEY INVOLVED IN HERE AS WELL.
>> IT'S HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT.
CAN COLLEGE CREDITS BE INVOLVED STUDENTS WANT TO GO THAT PATHWAY THEY CAN ENTER THEM AHEAD.
THEY DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THE CLASSES.
>> GOOD POINT YOU BROUGHT UP, VET TECHS AND VETERINARIANS.
>> VETERINARIANS ARE DOCTORS.
VET TECHS ARE ASSISTANTS AND THEN WE HAVE ASSISTANTS AS WELL.
>> THERE IS A CERTIFICATION PROCESS?
>> YES.
>> IT'S DIFFERENT FOR ALL THREE PATH WAYS.
VETERINARIES GET THEIR DOCTORS DEGREE.
TECHSCAN WORK WITHOUT EDUCATION.
I HAVE A BIGGER BACKGROUND.
YOU NEED A TWO YEAR ASSOCIATES.
THERE IS A NATIONAL CERTIFICATION FOR ASSISTANTS.
IT'S NOT REQUIRED.
IT'S RESUME BUILDING AND EXPERIENCE.
>> I HAVE TO ASK YOU, WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART SO FAR?
>> THAT'S HARD, I THINK WORKING WITH THE ANIMALS, DEFINITELY.
DOING IN TAKE AND GETTING TO KNOW THEM.
>> YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR EMOTIONS IN CHECK SOMETIMES?
>> YES.
>> IS THAT DIFFICULT TO DO?
>> YES, WE HAD PUPPIES THAT LIVED WITH US FOR TWO OR THREE MONTHS AND TRYING NOT TO GET ATTACHED.
>> SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT PROGRAM.
CONGRATULATIONS AND HALEY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS VETERINARY PROGRAM.
SOUNDS FUN.
>> THANK YOU.
>> GOOD TO HAVE YOU BOTH HERE.

SOME DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
>> THE PROGRAM INCLUDES CLASSROOM STUDY.
BUILDING REGULATIONS AND BLUEPRINTS ALONG WITH IN THE FIELD WORK WHERE THEY TEACH VARIOUS ASPECTS OF CONSTRUCTION.
AIR FORCE VETERANS SEARCHING FOR HIS NEXT STEP.
>> WITHOUT THE PROGRAM, I'D BE CONFUSED AS TO WHAT ROUTE I'D LIKE TO TAKE.
>> IN ADDITION TO TRAINING, THE OTHERS EARN CONSTRUCTION CERTIFICATIONS AND SMALL STIPENT.
>> A BENEFIT OF THE PROGRAM THEY TAKE THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE AND PLACE IT IN FRONT OF YOU SO YOU CAN DISSECT IT AND MAKE A CLEAR DECISION.
>> PROGRAMS LIKE HABITATE ARE A GREAT WAY TO FIND THE PERFECT JOB.
SMITH IS A CEO OF PIPELINE A SISTER.
AN ORGANIZE CONNECTING JOB SEEKERS WITH EMPLOYERS.
THERE ARE TWO OPPOSITIONS FOR EVERY JOB SEEKER.
FINDING A JOB IS A CHALLENGE.
WHY?
WHY DON'T WITH HAVE ZERO UNEMPLOYMENT.
>> SKILLS DON'T ALIGN WITH THE NEEDS.
NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE ADDRESSING THE ISSUE.
>> THERE ARE OTHER FACTORS MAKING THE HUNT DIFFICULT INCLUDING ONLINE JOB SEARCHING THAT'S CONFUSING AND DAUNTING.
ONCE YOU FIND IT IT COMES WITH A SALARY THAT DOESN'T KEEP UP WITH THE RISING COST OF RENT, TRANSPORTATION, OR CHILD CARE.
ADDING TO THE FLUSTRATION, THE FASTEST GROWING SECTORS IN ARIZONA.
LIKE MEDICAL, TECH, AND CONSTRUCTION COMING WITH THE BEST PAY.
DEMANDING HIGH LEVEL SKILLS.
LEAVING MOST APPLICANTS OUT IN THE COLD.
HABITATS KIRK SAID THAT MAKES THEIR PROGRAM SUCCESSFUL.
>> WE'D LIKE TO THINK WE GIVE THEM A HAND UP INTO THE WORK FORCE.
>> AMBER SMITH WARNINGS THEY WILL ONLY TWO SO FAR IN ELEVATING THE PROBLEM.
THEY BELIEVE LAWMAKERS MUST WORK ON BRINGING MORE QUALITY JOBS TO ARIZONA.
>> IT'S NOT A PARTISAN ISSUE.
CREATING JOBS MEAN REDUCING POVERTY AND HAVING INDUSTRIES THRIVE BY FILLING POSITIONS.
>> FOR BROCK, ALL OF THIS MEANS HE WILL HAVE THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO CONSTRUCT A BETTER FUTURE.
>> MY GOAL IS TO BE A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN.
>> AND THAT'S IT FOR NOW.
I'M TED SIMONS.
HAVE A GREAT EVENING.
