Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipI'm curious about the reputation of American food in Ecuador is it good is it bad like what what is it you know we'll think people will think that is more fast food oriented food but now when you're when you're here and you get to try the burger it's you know it's different it's I got accepted yeah hi I'm Meg executive producer at Nashville Public Television and on this series we talk about the little things that stood out to people when they first moved to the region from another country and today I'm here with Danny kishby Danny moved to Nashville Tennessee from Quito Ecuador Danny is an Avid Reader who enjoys being in the outdoors which is kind of why we decided to shoot here today and you told me something that was I thought really interesting about your observations when you moved here about how people in Nashville were maybe more outgoing and likely to invite someone that they just met to go on an adventure could you tell us a little about your experience with it yes for sure so I did find that quite nice from I'll say people I wouldn't say particularly from Nashville maybe but maybe the culture is a little bit different in the US in general yeah people are maybe more open-minded to go and enjoy an outdoor adventure or do outdoor activities with you even if you just met you know yeah it's different from what I feel Ecuador you'd normally do need to know the person to kind of go into that kind of stuff you know yeah but so back home in Keto or food you know restaurants or movies not really the activities to go on camping or rock climbing or or a hike you know those are more also more planned yeah yeah it takes a while to execute one of those scripts if you will say and I find that a lot of times the differences that people notice when they move to a new country is related to food so are there any foods that you eat or you could eat back home in Ecuador that you don't find here what absolutely there is quite a bit um I will say I personally it's not that I enjoyed the dish but there is very there is a traditional dishes which is guinea pig guinea pig guinea pig yes I I you cannot find it obviously here mostly yeah it is it is sorry but I I found people that you know they kind of on social media you get to see it uh there's quite a bit people that sell that in New York so there is there's a dish too as a dish yes as a dish um so yeah I will say that but is it also a pet in Ecuador it's only like food um there is bad because it's a di.. type of guinea pig I would say it's about like more a little bit bigger size not the small ones you know okay it's a different kind yeah got it so similar but not the exact same yeah similar but not exactly sure have you had it before does it what does it taste like um I did yeah I have it um everything tastes like chicken I guess when you think it's not it's a unique flavor at least for me I wouldn't describe it as chicken or pork or anything that relates to like white or red meat okay it's there it's its own flavor it's not bad it's just different just different yeah yeah so what about the reverse of that are there certain foods or meats that you can find in the U.S that then you can't find in Ecuador yes there is absolutely I'll say it's harder to find an Ecuador crawfish for example I think New Orleans to practice over there sure you know so different kind of seasoning and everything the experience itself is sticky as far as flavor you know yeah Foods in general are there's just a lot of variety right yeah Seafoods in general a lot of yeah variety but I I will say you know maybe going back to the previous question it's harder to find here Seafood than it is in Ecuador makes sense about the reputation of American food in Ecuador is it good is it bad like what what is it you know we'll think people will think that it's more fast food oriented food so it's not very healthy maybe people think it's like the American chains that they see oh it's all McDonald's it's all Kentucky Fried Chicken sort of right it's it yeah that's that's what we picture yes and how has that been your experience what do you think were you disappointed were you like oh it's better than I huh when you thought to me so so I guess just it's it goes uh while you're here for a bit right it's not just because all we know is just chain restaurants as you mentioned but once you're local and you live here uh you get to try different type of burgers for example yep um and that's for me one of the things that got me the most because not okay the burgers are the same you know they they do make them in different ways they do season it different yeah it depends on the cut of the state of the meat that they are using is this totally different experience you know so so not all burgers are created no when you're here and you get to try the burger it's you know it's different yep yeah well I gotta ask what is your favorite place in Nashville to get a burger for me at the moment it's Jack's round it's very good burger though I so agree no I love that place yeah yeah it is very good burgers there and a lot of a lot of different varieties too yeah exactly and depends on the day too they kind of have their own Burger of the day so that's quite nice well thank you Danny so much for taking the time to join us today and share some of your observations when you first moved to Nashville appreciate it well thank you very much I enjoyed it and thank you all for joining us for this episode of the little things if you
