And during their time at the Carter Center and in their lives, they visited together more than 100 countries, and they worked side by side with thousands of people in those communities.
To give an example, in Uganda, the Carter Center is working with a huge network of community volunteers to end river blindness, and when one of those communities found out about my grandfather's upcoming birthday, they sent our first bit of little musical love.

(audience cheers) (audience applauds) It's the real life love story of a beautiful small-town girl and a handsome farm boy who found each other and never let go.
When Rosalynn Smith was born in Plains, Georgia, a three-year-old neighbor boy named Jimmy was brought over to see the new baby.
It's a whole new spin on meet cute.
(laughs) (audience laughs) As the years went by, Rosalynn became best friends with Jimmy's younger sister, and Jimmy went off to attend the Naval Academy.
A teenage Rosalynn saw a picture of him in uniform and immediately developed an understandable, unshakeable crush.
During a visit home on a break from his studies at Annapolis, the dashing young man saw pretty Rosalynn outside a church and asked her to go to a movie with him.
(audience laughs) The next morning at breakfast, Jimmy told his mother, "Mama, that's the girl I'm gonna marry."
And when the time came for him to pop the question, Rosalynn said, "No."
(audience laughs) She promised her daddy that she was gonna finish school first, and she did, and Jimmy asked again, and we know what she said.
(audience applauds) They were married on July 7th, 1946, and lived happily ever after for the next 77 years.
In that time, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter went everywhere and did everything together, bringing love and compassion with them all over the world.
And during Rosalynn's final days, Jimmy asked that their beds be arranged foot to foot so that he could see her and talk to her.
Of course, he was with her last November to see her on her way.
He was 99 and she was 96, two kids still madly in love.
The Rosalynn and Jimmy story, a love story for the ages, and a remarkable 100 years.
