Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipGUEST: I brought this.
It's called a, um, bird bath, but that's a misnomer, because it was designed to be at the Rockefeller estate, a, for around their pool to put wet towels in.
There were, uh, 17 made, but my cousin was the chief designer and plant manager at Wendell August Forge, where this was made.
And this is his personal copy that I, has come down to me through the family.
APPRAISER: Well, you've brought this really amazing tour de force of American postwar hammered aluminum wares, which were wildly popular in postwar America, uh, mostly dining and table type items.
But this is an exception where we've got this large, three-dimensional piece.
Uh, it's about the best of the best of the best of this type of item.
And I think at a fair insurance value in today's market would be $1,200.
GUEST: Wow, thank you.
Exciting.
